Book Fair

Everything to Know about the 2023 Scholastic Book Fair at Chestnutwold

Mark your calendars! This year the Scholastic Book Fair will run from Monday, November 27 to Friday, December 1.

All students will visit the fair during their library time during the school week, and you will have an opportunity to shop on two family nights, Tuesday, November 28 and Thursday, November 30, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

***This year we will be limiting our use of plastic bags, so we are asking everyone to bring their own reusable bag to the book fair. If you have extra reusable bags that you’d like to donate for students to use at the book fair, please add them to the bin in the front vestibule or library.***

Here are ways you can get ready for the fair and support literacy and STEAM at Chestnutwold:

Note that you can send cash in an envelope marked with your child’s name and homeroom the week of the book fair.

You can also purchase books online during the book fair at our Scholastic Book Fair webpage. https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/chestnutwoldelementaryschool

Important notes about eWallets: As noted above, funds placed on eWallets are not refunded if they are not used at the fair, but they can be used for future purchases through your scholastic account.

  • After the Book Fair, unused eWallet funds will convert to an eGift card balance within 24 hours. Families can use eGift cards to shop online in The Scholastic Store. So you remember your funds, Scholastic sends monthly email reminders of monetary balances.

  • If you had an eWallet last year, check if you still have funds from last year. If you would like, you can apply them to your new eWallet account for this year.

  • This year, student eWallet balances less than $1.50 may be used to help other students who may be a little short on change for their purchase. If you wish to opt out of this, please email tracydoney@gmail.com before Monday November 27, 2023.

  • For more information on eWallets, visit https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/content/fairs/ewallet.html

Chestnutwold Elementary School

We are so excited to see everyone on Friday, October 27 from 6:30-7:30pm! Park your car, truck, van (or broom!) in the school's parking lot and decorate your trunk into something silly or spooky! Hand out candy to the kiddos as they pass by. Prizes will be awarded to the top cars!

In order to make the night a success, we are asking each family of trick-or-treaters to please donate 1 bag of candy to the event. Families decorating their cars are asked to bring only candies for giving away (donations are welcome but not necessary).

There are multiple ways you can help:  decorate your car, donate candy, help clean up, or do all 3!

Phoenix Fun Day and Dance Party

Join us this Friday for the biggest party of the school year -

Phoenix Fun Day & Dance Party

Friday, Sept 29th, 4:30 - 7:30pm

Chestnutwold Elementary

**This event is RAIN OR SHINE! In the event of inclement weather, much of the event will be located in the gym.

Phoenix Fun Day brings our Chestnutwold families together for an afternoon of fun, games, and more! This annual event is a favorite tradition to kick off the school year, meet new families, and build the Chestnutwold community. It also serves as our biggest fundraiser of the year, paving the way for the PTO to fund  many items and programs throughout the school year.

Phoenix Fun Day features games, inflatables, crafts, and an obstacle course; it also includes an hour-long dance party with games!  Pizza, baked goods, and spirit wear will be available for sale. All members of the school community are welcome to join the fun!

We've got some exciting new things planned for this year, including a new activity, PLUS, raffle baskets generously donated by local businesses. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the event.

Parent volunteers are needed to help run games, chaperone the bounce houses, set up, breakdown, and work the bake table and pizza booth.

What to expect on the day of:

  • Attending: Haven’t RSVPed? That’s ok, you’re still welcome to attend!

  • Arriving: PFD begins at 4:30. That means students must go home after school. If you are a walker who hangs out on the playgrounds after school, please keep children away while we set up the event. (Might be a good day to play at Elwell or Merwood instead!) Come anytime after 4:30- many kids arrive later, after dance/sports/work.

  • Food: Pre-ordered pizzas will be available for pick up when you arrive. We might have a few extra pizzas for day-of purchase, but we can’t promise this. If you didn’t pre-order and you’re worried about hunger, please pack your own dinner. Baked goods and drinks will also be available for purchase ($1/item), so please bring cash! Plates for pizza are also not a guarantee, so if that is important to you, please bring your own! Lawn blankets and chairs are also a great idea!

  • Activities: Dancing, inflatables, obstacle course, craft, temporary tattoos, lawn games, and more!

  • Raffle Baskets: We have 11 raffle baskets containing items donated by local businesses. Raffle tickets will be for sale for $1/ticket. For two special raffle baskets, tickets will cost $5. (Cash or Venmo accepted.)

  • Donating: This is a fundraiser for our PTO, so we will have a Donation Station set up where families are welcome to donate if they so desire. (Check, cash, and Venmo accepted.) Curious about what the PTO raises money for? Check out our webpage

  • Volunteering: Please check in at the volunteer check-in (Donation Station) before you report to duty!

  • Spirit Wear: CW clothes and accessories will be available for purchase! (Cash and Venmo accepted.)

  • Bathrooms: We will have access to the bathrooms in the basement of the school, but we are not permitted to wander around the school. (Please let your alumni children know this is not the time to re-visit their old classrooms.)

  • Leaving: PFD ends at 7:30. We ask that everyone take a few minutes to pick up any trash and litter you see on the ground. This will help our clean up go much faster. Thank you!

  • Lost Children: It is not uncommon for younger siblings to get lost, especially as it gets dark. When you arrive, please pick a meeting spot for your children to go to if you are separated and/or show them the DJ booth so they can report to it if you need their name announced.
